There are different varieties you will find in the shop, usually petit pois or standard green peas. Either variety works with this recipe.

Frozen peas sometimes taste better than fresh because they are harvested at their peak and then flash frozen so they retain flavor and nutrients.

We love to always have a bag in the freezer because it takes only 10 minutes to cook the peas and have a healthy peas side dish.

Best way to cook frozen peas

You can either boil, steam, sauté or roast (yep, roasting is also good).

The best way of cooking frozen peas and the one that has most flavor is sautéing but we will take you through all different cooking options so you can pick for yourself and know your options when cooking peas.

Ingredients

ingredients - olive oil, lemon juice, frozen peas, garlic and onion
  • Frozen green peas - peas are high in protein, fiber and carbohydrates. And also contain vitamin K, C, A, potassium, iron and more. They are a great vegetable to serve as a side dish. You can use other varieties of peas in this recipe also.
  • Olive oil - full of heart healthy mono-saturated fats and our preferred oil for cooking because of its nutrition. You can also use butter here the same way you use oil however butter in higher in saturated fats.
  • Garlic and onion - sauté before adding the peas. Gives it the right flavor. If you are serving to picky eaters they may not want to see onion so in that case just use garlic or even nothing.
  • Lemon Juice - works perfectly with the sweetness of peas and flavor of onion and garlic.
  • Salt - add at the end in order to not dehydrate the peas
