Ingredients For Homemade Popsicles for Kids

We use 4 simple ingredients to make these healthy popsicles for kids:

Labelled ingredients on a white background
  • Plain Greek Yogurt: Use full-fat greek yogurt to provide the creamy texture for these popsicles, offering a rich texture and a boost of protein. Do not use flavoured yogurt as it usually comes with added sugar.
  • Banana: Adds natural sweetness and helps achieve a smooth consistency when blended with the yogurt.
  • Frozen Blueberries: Bursting with antioxidants and flavor, these little blue gems bring a vibrant color and refreshing taste to the popsicles.
  • Fresh Strawberries: Packed with vitamin C and fiber, strawberries lend their sweetness and a hint of tartness to balance out the flavors.

With these ingredients we get 3 flavors of popsicle which babies and toddlers will also love - strawberry yogurt popsicles, blueberry greek yogurt popsicles and banana yogurt popsicles.

Additions

  • Maple Syrup: For added sweetness, you can drizzle a bit of maple syrup or honey into the yogurt mixture before freezing. We have this recipe for Frozen Blueberry Yogurt Popsicles that uses additional sweetener if required.
  • Vanilla Extract: Enhances the flavor profile with a subtle hint of vanilla.
  • Fresh Fruit: Garnish the popsicles with fresh fruit slices before freezing for an extra burst of flavor and visual appeal.

Variations

  • Mixed Berry: Use a combination of fresh berries such as raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries for a medley of flavors.
  • Tropical Twist: Incorporate diced mango (like these Mango Popsicles), pineapple, and shredded coconut for a taste of the tropics.
  • Creamsicle: Mix in orange juice and zest for a creamy orange popsicle reminiscent of a classic creamsicle.

Storage

Once frozen, remove the popsicles from the molds and store them in a freezer bag or container to prevent freezer burn. They can be kept for up to two weeks for optimal freshness.

FAQ

Can I use regular yogurt instead of Greek yogurt?

While Greek yogurt provides a creamier texture and higher protein content, you can certainly use regular plain  yogurt for a lighter option. Just note that the consistency may differ slightly.

How do I prevent ice crystals from forming in my popsicles?

To minimize ice crystal formation, make sure to blend the ingredients until smooth and tap the filled molds gently on the counter to release any trapped air bubbles before freezing.

Can I make these popsicles ahead of time for a party?

Absolutely! These are perfect for prepping in advance. Simply store them in the freezer until ready to serve, and you'll have a refreshing treat ready to go whenever the occasion calls for it.

At what age can I give this homemade popsicle to baby?

Baby can have a taste of these yogurt popsicles as soon as they eat solid foods as long as you have made sure they are not allergic to dairy or to any of the fruits.
