What is a 2 Ingredient Fudge

As a simple explanation, fudge is a dense yet soft candy. Traditionally it is flavored with chocolate but nowadays you can find it with pretty much and ingredients.

The thing about fudge is that it's traditional recipe often contains ingredients such as refined sugar, processed or store-bought ready-to-bake foods or simply have a whole long list of ingredients.

This recipe is a modern twist to the regular fudge. It's nutritious, healthy and only requires 2 ingredients.

About this recipe

This delicious recipe might just be the easiest thing you will ever make. Not only does it require only two simple ingredients, but it's super quick to prepare - in just 10 minutes.

Yes the cooling down might take some time until you can fully enjoy it but even that is not that long. An hour in the freezer and you'll have yourself a super healthy and tasty treat, snack or easy dessert.

Ingredients

ingredients for peanut butter fudge
  • peanut butter: I like to use the crunchy one because I like the taste of bits of peanuts in the fudge but feel free to use the smooth one if you prefer it. Just make sure it doesn't have added salt or (palm) oil. Or simply make your own.
  • raw cocoa powder: this is my number two ingredient for the fudge as it is very healthy, filled with antioxidants and gives that chocolaty look and taste.

How To Make - step by step photos

In two ways. Two very simple ways. And based on your preference or just the type of equipment you have at home you can make it in a microwave or on a stovetop.

Stovetop 2 Ingredient Peanut Butter Fudge

step by step photos showing how to make the fudge
  1. Line a 15 x 15 cm (6 x 6 inch) glass storage container with tin foil, parchment paper or cling film. I use glass containers such as square Pyrex ones but any other baking tin or container in similar size will do.
  2. Put water into a small pot and allow to boil. Once it comes to a boil, lower the heat so that it continues to boil on low-to-medium heat.
  3. Put the peanut butter into a heatproof bowl over the pot with boiling water and heat until the peanut butter becomes more of a liquid consistency.
  4. Add the raw cocoa powder and stir until the cocoa powder is fully assembled with the peanut butter.
  5. Remove from the heat and transfer to the container with a silicone spatula. Sprinkle with a bit of sea salt.
  6. Smooth the surface and put in the freezer.
  7. Remove from the freezer after about an hour and either cut into small squares and serve or move to the refrigerator.

Tip: allow it to rest at room temperature for about 5 - 10 minutes before cutting

  1. Line a 15 x 15 cm (6 x 6 inch) glass storage container or baking dish with tin foil, parchment paper or cling film. I use glass containers such as square Pyrex ones but any other baking tin or container in similar size will do.
  2. Put the peanut butter into a microwave-safe bowl and microwave for about 60 seconds.
  3. Stir and add the raw cocoa powder.
  4. Stir again until the cocoa powder is fully assembled with the peanut butter and put in the microwave for another 30 seconds.
  5. Do one final stirring and transfer to the container with a silicone spatula. Sprinkle with a bit of sea salt.
  6. Smooth the surface.
  7. Put in the freezer for about 1 hour and then either cut into small squares and serve or move to the refrigerator.

Substitutions

There is not really much you can substitute with this 2 ingredient fudge apart from the following:

  • Peanut butter: use smooth peanut butter instead of the crunchy one
  • Raw cocoa powder: use >70% dark chocolate

Variations and Add-ins

Even though it might not seem so with these two ingredients, there are actually various things you can add or try to mix up this recipe a bit. It will no longer be a 2 ingredients fudge but does that really matter?

  • whole peanuts or peanut halves
  • chopped roasted hazelnuts to the smooth peanut butter recipe
  • shredded coconut
  • dark chocolate chips, white chocolate chips
  • wholegrain crushed cookies

Top tip: once removed from the freezer, allow your fudge to rest for about 5 - 10 minutes depending on the room temperature before cutting and serving.

How To Store My Two Ingredient Fudge?

Once cut up to slices of your liking, you can store your homemade fudge in an airtight container or these silicone storage bags in the freezer for up to 3 months.

That way you will have it already cut it so that it is easier to take out smaller amounts when you need a quick snack or delicious dessert.

Once you remove from the freezer, allow to thaw at room temperature for about 15 - 30 minutes or until you like the consistency well enough to eat.

What Container or Tin Size Do I Need To Use For This Peanut Butter Fudge Recipe?

For these amounts in the recipe, I find the container size of 15 x 15 cm (6 x 6 inch) the best to achieve the ideal height of this homemade peanut butter fudge. You can use larger tins or containers but make sure you increase the amounts of the ingredients if you want to maintain the same height of your fudge.

How Do I Double This Recipe?

Easily. It's a 1:1 ratio between cups of peanut butter and tablespoons of cocoa powder. So if you are using 1.5 cups of peanut butter you will need 1.5 tablespoons of cocoa powder.

What Kitchen Tools Do I Need To Make This Two Ingredient Fudge?

Apart from having either a microwave or stovetop and a container to store, you'll need a heatproof bowl, whisk, silicone spatula and if using a stovetop another pot to heat the water. Simple as that!
