Why we love this recipe

  • great drink for kids or adults
  • can be made using fresh strawberries or by making homemade strawberry syrup (both options are described below)
  • great texture - this milk is smooth and silky
  • strawberries are high in vitamin C and milk is high in calcium

Strawberries are a great spring fruit and that is why we love using it in so many recipes such as the healthy strawberry pancakes, strawberry juice, strawberry oatmeal and many more.

And if flavored milks are your thing then check out our banana milk recipe and blueberry milk recipe.

Ingredients

ingredients on white background labeled - strawberries, milk, honey
  • Strawberries - we use fresh or frozen (but thawed) strawberries that have the greens removed. The sweeter the strawberries the better the milk will taste.
  • Sugar - use any kind of granulated sugar to make a syrup. We use coconut sugar or birch sugar. We need sugar if we are making the syrup version of the drink. If using the blender version you don't need sugar.
  • Milk - diary, almond, or any other plant based milk

How to make strawberry milk at home?

It can be easily made by blending strawberries and milk in a blender, however that way you get more of a smoothie type drink and you want more of a nesquik strawberry milk I presume. In this case we can make a strawberry syrup that can last in the fridge for 2 weeks and can be reused to make this milk easily every day.

By blending fresh strawberries

This is a sugar-free healthy strawberry milk option.

  1. Wash the strawberries and trim the greens.
  2. In a high speed blender combine strawberries, milk and pinch of salt.
  3. Blend until smooth.
  4. Serve

Tip: add honey (for kids over 1) or maple syrup if you want it sweeter.

strawberries and milk blending

By using strawberry syrup

  1. Wash the strawberries and trim the greens.
  2. In a saucepan combine strawberries, sugar, water. Bring to boil and then reduce the heat and simmer for about 10 minutes.
  3. Once the mixture is reduced and combined, remove from the stove.
  4. Take a fine mesh strainer and strain the mixture through a funnel into a bottle or glass container where you will keep the strawberry syrup in. (You could also blend it in a high speed blender).
  5. Add 4 tablespoon of strawberry syrup per cup of milk and combine to get delicious milk.
  6. Store the syrup in fridge up to 2 weeks.

Tips and variations

  • Vegan homemade strawberry milk - make using plant based milk. Almond, soy or coconut milk work.
  • Add vanilla extract for a delicious taste
  • Add banana for a delicious strawberry banana milkshake
  • Thin it by adding more milk, or thicken it by adding more strawberries or more strawberry syrup

FAQ

Is strawberry milk good for you?

This homemade strawberry milk recipe is made from strawberries and milk (and optional sweetener) and given that strawberries are high in vitamin C and antioxidants, and milk is high in calcium it is good for your body. Store-bought varieties contain artificial ingredients and preservatives.

Can I make this with frozen strawberries?

Yes, this can be made with frozen strawberries. I find that frozen berries are usually more sour than fresh ones so you may need to use more sweetener.
